Newsletter Dos and Donts

Newsletters are a fantastic way to brag on your business a bit while engaging your ideal audience. Putting out a once monthly newsletter to a group of already subscribed individuals can add so much needed information as well as keep your favorite peeps up to date!

But how do you go about creating a newsletter? Is any information good or do you need to be selective? Here are a couple dos and donts of email newsletters to get the ball rolling.

DO find your best automated email service: A few great options for automated email marketing include Constant Contact, Drip, GetResponse, Mailchimp, ConvertKit, and a few others. The key with these services is finding the best for your business and what is most intuitive and easy for you to use. While others may brag about Mailchimp and how much they love it, you may prefer Constant Contact. And there’s not a thing wrong with that.

DON’T add too much information: Some businesses want to give clients all the information possible in a newsletter, and while some appreciate it – many do not. A newsletter needs to have enough information to cover the basics but not too much that it’s like drinking from a fire hydrant. Just a taste is enough!

DO add photos and graphics: A few well-placed photos and graphics in an email newsletter is great to draw the eye downward and towards the information you’re wanting to relay. By putting a few key images in your marketing, you’ll make it more engaging.

DON’T put emojis in your email subject line: This one is new! For a while, putting emojis in the subject line of your email was a good way to it to be in front of people’s eyes faster. However, emails with emojis placed in the subject lines are being bumped to spam or trash. Yikes!

While not an exhaustive list, this will help you get started with your email marketing and what you’re trying to convey to your readers. If you need some more helpful hints, feel free to drop me a line!
