Dani Anderson Broome || Rover
Adventures can start small or large on any given day. You may intentionally begin a new hobby, creative outlet, or project for work. For Dani, her adventure began a little differently. I had the honor of meeting with her as she explained how her journey into the pet sitting business began, and I loved getting to know her sweet personality.
"Well, actually, I had to use Rover before I ever decided to work for them," she mentioned. "I have an older dog named Benson who is easy going, so I never needed a sitter for him. Friends were more than happy to take him! But...then a puppy came along, and his energy levels came with the transition. I had to come up with a solution because he was chaotic!"
Looking for options, Dani stumbled across Rover and realized what an incredible opportunity she had in front of her. "Honestly, what prompted the thought of 'I could do this' was the student loan debt crisis! I knew we needed to supplement our income, but I didn't want to sacrifice time with my husband or with my dogs. It really just seemed like the right thing!"
Always being a fan of dogs, Dani began her application. "Unfortunately, it was started right before I got married," she laughed, "so the husband nixed it until after our honeymoon!" A week after arriving back from the honeymoon, she decided it was time to finish the application and get started taking care of some furry friends. Everything was processed quickly, and she had her first booking within two days!
I asked about the frequency of doggy visits to which Dani replied that they have a dog almost every weekend. Dani and her husband don't take any more than two dogs at a time since their house is on the smaller side. People will usually drop off their pets Friday and pick them up on Sunday. Dani mentioned they've even had bookings for up to two weeks! "We've had dogs that require special care! We really love maintaining friendships with the owners of the dogs and checking in on them."
While some dog sitters may enjoy the shorter three day stays, Dani is a fan of the longer visits. "The first day or two is really overwhelming for a dog, and they need time to adjust. It takes them time to be comfortable. They finally settle down and become more comfortable." In addition, Dani and her husband have a few regular clients that they've sat for multiple times. But since they just started dog sitting in October, regular clients will take time to grow.
In addition to having pets in Dani's home, she also does walks and drop ins! So if your pet is needing a quick bathroom break while you're at work, Dani can help you out. However she prefers having the dogs at her home and, according to her, the dogs like it, too. "I feel like they enjoy our house because we have a big backyard that we fenced in for the purpose of letting the pups go out and play. It's a nice release of energy!"
Since Dani's love for animals is truly evident, I had to ask the eventual question, "Have you ever thought about owning your own pet sitting business?"
She laughed, "Oh man, we've had a lot of conversations about it But, for now, we're focusing on building relationships with people...Rover also provides a lot of people with a peace of mind knowing their animal is safe. Right now, it's really working well for me! My husband is the one with grand plans in mind for our future, but I'm the practical one! We'll see what the future holds."
